What started as just a few friends getting together to share the cost
of hiring a large hall has now become a regular event, so much so we’ve
formed an informal club. The Welwyn Whirlybirds
We meet up once a month at the Civic Centre in Welwyn, just off J6 of the A1(M). The hall has a single badminton court with a lot of space around it, with a high roof and flush lighting. Pilots must have insurance to fly, and will be required to show proof when joining
Motor size is limited to 410 so nothing larger than a Piccolo Pro can be flown during the meeting times of 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm. (although we may occasionally bend this rule )
From the North
A1(M) heading south, take the Welwyn exit (junc 6). At the round about at the bottom of the slip road take the 3rd exit and go under the motorway bridge. As you pass under the next bridge the road bears to the right with a turning on the left (effectively you carry on straight but must indicate a left turn), take this turning, there will be a fire station in front of you to your right. Approx 400 mts the Civic centre will be on your right, and you will be approaching a bend to the left with a junction on your right – turn right at this junction keeping the Centre on your right. Parking is at the rear.
From the South
A1(M) heading north, take the Welwyn exit (J6). At the round about at the bottom of the slip road take the 1st exit, pass the new crossing and shortly you will see a BP petrol station on your right. Take the next right which doubles back keeping the petrol station on your right. Follow the road down and you will pass the Steamer pub on your right. Go down the hill and take the next turning on your right. After 50 mts the road bends sharply to the right with a junction on the left, take this turning (the road actually goes straight on !) – the Civic centre is on your right. Parking is at the rear
